Susan (Susie) Ruth (Parson) Pace, was born June 7, 1943 to the late Lillian and Walter Parson and passed away July 7, 2026. Susie was born and raised in Suck Creek. She lived on Lookout Mt, GA for 34 years and the last 22 years in Birchwood TN. Susie’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She was a creative soul and loved art, gardening and music. Susie added her own flare to everything, which we lovingly referred to as being “Susiefied”. With her passing we have a little less color in our lives. May she rest in peace and add her special touch to heaven.

She is Survived by daughters, Candace D Stoker (David) and Deborah N Long; sons, Walter B. Sanders (Cristal) and Jack W. Morrison Jr; beloved cousin, Ellen (Pickett) Lusk (Bennie); sister, Tammy (Parson) Hatfield; 6 grandchildren, Davin, Aaron, Jack, Ben, Sabrina and Christian; and 11 great grandchildren.

Susie is preceded in death by her husbands, Jerry Pace (2005) and Jack Morrison (1980); father, Walter B. Parson; son, Gregory Sanders; grandson, Matthew (Long) Coyle; sister, Lisa (Parson) Swanson.

A Celebration of her life will be held on July, 30th 2026 at 21812 River Canyon Rd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

On Saturday, July 18th, Helen Killebrew passed away after a short battle with cancer. She had turned 62 just 10 days prior to passing. Throughout her life, she resided in Lookout Valley, Chattanooga, and spent her last days in Rossville.

All of her kids have never met a stranger, and without question, she took every single friend of theirs in and treated them as if they were her own. She had far more than just her biological children call her “mom” and she lived up to the title. She had a positive impact on so many and spread love constantly.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents John and Voula Nicolou.

She is survived by her partner, Jason Cordell, kids, Laurel Cruse, Cody (Anne) Cruse, and Yanni Killebrew, and her wiry dog, Rebel, who all loved her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at One Accord Community Church, 343 Sweetland Dr Chattanooga TN 37415 on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 6:00 pm.

Linda Roberts Moore passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on October 6, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Linda spent her childhood growing up in nearby Wheaton, where she developed the strong values, a sense of humor, and warmth that would define her throughout her life. She graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Medical Technology.

Linda began her career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago as a Lab Tech and later worked at Oak Ridge Associated Universities in cytogenetics research. She took great pride in contributing to work that helped improve the lives of others.

Linda found joy in life's everyday pleasures. She loved movies and building her collections of antiques, pieces of copper, and paperweights. Whether enjoying a favorite film, discovering a hidden treasure at an antique shop, or sharing stories over a meal, she had a gift for making ordinary moments special.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents John K.D. Roberts and Louise Tay Roberts.

Linda is survived by her children, Julie Mitchell of Ooltewah, Tennessee and Larry (Carrie) Dry of Downers Grove, Illinois ; her four grandchildren, Sara and Emma Mitchell and Alison and Lauren Dry. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Ronald Glenn Smith, age 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026.

He was born on January 3, 1937, to Earl and Ruby Smith. Ronald was a 1955 graduate of City High School. He proudly served his country for four years in the Navy Reserve and four years in the United States Air Force. He spent most of his career at the Provident Life Building, where he served as Maintenance Supervisor and Physical Plant Manager.

Ronald attended Ooltewah United Methodist Church. A devoted member of the Jaycees, he loved volunteering and supporting his community. When no one was watching, he would make his way to the river — he loved passing the time fishing and visiting with friends and acquaintances along the way. He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruby Smith, and his brother, David F. Smith.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Glen Smith (Ann) and Stephen Alan Smith; his sisters, Janice Smith Buttram, Ina Carolyn Smith Horton (Clinton), and Ruby Sandra Smith McGee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

A small service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, with remarks by Jimmy Buttram.

Margaret Barnard Mullin passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the age of 67, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on September 11, 1958, and spent her entire life in the Lakesite and Soddy-Daisy communities she loved so dearly. Margaret lived a life centered on family, friendship, and making others feel welcome. She loved cooking for those she cared about, entertaining family and friends, and filling her home with laughter and conversation. She found joy in walking, boating, and fishing, and she had a special place in her heart for her beloved cocker spaniels.

Above all else, Margaret treasured her family. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband, John/Robbie Mullin, and a proud, loving mother to her beautiful daughter, Marlee. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with those she loved, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Margaret dedicated many years of her professional life as an office manager for several orthodontic and dental practices throughout the Chattanooga area. She was respected not only for her professionalism and work ethic but also for the kindness and warmth she extended to everyone she met. She also loved and supported the Notre Dame Irish Wrestling team, where she was a tremendous help to the program for many years.

To know Margaret was to love her. Friends describe her as truly one of a kind, a woman whose wit, beautiful smile, and genuine personality could brighten any room. She had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever she went, turning even brief encounters into lasting connections. Her many medical assistants and technicians often referred to Margaret as their favorite patient, and the many doctors and nurses who cared for her over the years considered it a privilege to know her. She had a way of making everyone around her feel valued, appreciated, and loved.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Bill and Elizabeth Barnard.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband, Robbie Mullin; her beloved daughter, Marlee Mullin Smith & son-in-law Hunter Smith; her sisters, Millie Barnard Nethery, Ginny Barnard Morrison, and Connie Barnard Lowrance; along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Margaret’s legacy is one of love, compassion, generosity, and joy. She leaves behind countless memories, warm laughter, and an example of how to live with grace, kindness, and an open heart. Though she will be deeply missed every day, her love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Dr. Walter Puckett

Dr. Walter Puckett, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025 at his home on Signal Mountain, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 22, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama the son of the late Sara and Walter Puckett.

Dr. Puckett’s life was marked by dedication, compassion, and a profound impact on those who knew him. He graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School. He served in the Navy as a doctor in the Underwater Demolition Team now known as the Navy SEALs. Following his military service, he returned to Vanderbilt to do a 2 year Cardiology Fellowship, and then completed his residency at Johns Hopkins. After which he taught at the University of Florida Medical School before joining the late Dr. Fred Ballard in the Cardiology and Internal Medicine practice in Chattanooga in January of 1963.

His family was very touched by recent posts in an Erlanger hospital employee page on Facebook. The word “legend” was often used to describe him and his career. Their descriptions during his morning rounds at the hospital, of his intimidating presence (for those new to working with him), his fierce advocacy of his patients, and his sense of humor were beautiful to read.

Throughout his career, Dr. Puckett received many accolades including receiving the first Distinguished Physician Award from the Baroness Foundation in 2004. He was known for his advocacy work for the less fortunate and his love of teaching residents from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He was proud of his Champions of Health Care Volunteer Award in 2016 for his work as the first medical director for Project Access, an organization that has provided free health care for thousands in the Chattanooga area.

Dr. Puckett was also an avid outdoorsman. He became an expert in whitewater canoeing, snow skiing, sporting clays, and glider piloting. He developed a deep love for fly fishing, which took him all the way from Alaska to Argentina. In his later years, he doggedly kept his daily routine of daily walks outside, especially enjoying the Chickamauga Dam footpaths on the Riverwalk and seeing his “dam friends”.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, his sons, John (Kim) and Bill, his cherished granddaughters, Chapel and Carter, and his dog, Roscoe. Linda and Walter were married for 63 years, providing an example to all of us of what a marriage should be.

Dr. Puckett was a member of Thankful Memorial Episcopal Church where a private family service will be held. Later there will be a family and friends reception at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club on March 15, 2015 at 5 PM to visit and tell stories and celebrate Dr. Puckett’s life.

William Christopher Hugmeyer passed away at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 19, 2025.

William’s passions were nature and art. One of his great loves was photography. He spent his last years enjoying nature and taking pictures of the things he loved. William will be remembered for his bravery while serving our country during the Vietnam War. He is a Purple Heart recipient and served 2 tours during his time in the U.S. Army. William will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Patricia Hugmeyer, and his sister Sandy Scholl.

Still with us are his brother, Mark Hugmeyer, his children, Nadine Hugmeyer, William C. Hugmeyer Jr., and Tracy Sanchez, as well as 10 grandkids and 8 great-grandkids.

Graveside service will be held Friday, June 6th at 12:30pm at Chattanooga National Cemetery 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.

Mardell Elaine Patz, 81, of Dunlap, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 11, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mardell was born on August 31, 1943, in Bottineau, North Dakota, to Lyle and Amelia Mabel McGarry (Baune). She cherished her family, friends, and pets, especially her beloved little dog, Corky. As the matriarch of her family, she brought warmth to everyone with a smile as big as her laugh and generous hugs for family and strangers alike.

Mardell lived an adventurous life, having spent her early years in Indiana before moving west to California, where she and her husband raised their children, eventually settling in Tennessee in her later years. She loved to have fun, and her hobbies included riding horses, playing cards and backgammon, and dancing.

Mardell is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Nelson Patz, her parents, and her siblings, Wilmer, Donna Mae, Myrna, Dion, and Richard, as well as her grandchildren, Kisha and Christopher, and her great-grandchild, Madison.

She is survived by her children, Vicky Whitaker, Velvet Norris, Lisa Landers, Elizabeth Rude and Wade Patz. Her grandchildren include Lo’Rae Hibbetts, Melissa Hibbetts, Letha Henderson, Brian Martin, Steven Martin, Johnny Norris, Joshua Norris, Michael Norris, Matthew Norris, Mark Norris, Kelly Booth, Joseph Strickland, Elaine Goins, Ryan Landers, Kayla Rude, Robert Rude, Thomas Patz, Lance Patz, Tamra Patz, and Devin Patz, along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will take place at 3 PM Sunday, May 18, 2025, at RedFox Service & Repair Inc. in Trenton, GA.

Linda Picklesimer, a beloved mother, and long-time resident of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025 at the age of 78.

Born in July, 1946, Linda dedicated her life to her family, her career, and her community. A proud graduate of Western Illinois University, Linda earned her Master of Science in Recreation and Park Administration, a field in which she would go on to make a lasting impact. She worked for many years at the University of West Georgia, where her contributions to the university community were deeply valued.

In addition to her professional achievements, Linda was an active member of several local organizations. She served on various committees with the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) and was a strong advocate for student engagement and community building. Linda was also a committed member of Carrollton’s Community Theatre and Rotary, Habitat for Humanity and The American Cancer Society where her passion for the arts and service to others was felt by many. In 1996 she was chosen as a community hero to carry the torch for the Olympics.

Linda is survived by her daughters, Jenni Kilby of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Jacki Gillespie of Todos Santos, Mexico; her stepdaughter, Lana Hitt of Bowdon, Georgia; and her stepson, John Picklesimer of Atlanta, Georgia. Plus, many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John Picklesimer. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and colleagues, all of whom were touched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

Linda will always be remembered for her quiet strength, her dedication to her work and community, and the profound love she showed to those closest to her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and she will never be forgotten.

Ronald Earl Cumbie

Ronald Earl Cumbie, 83, of Chattanooga, TN passed peacefully in his home on June 21, 2025. Ron was born in Athens, Texas to Jeana Merle Stogner and Edgar McTerry Cumbie. The oldest of three siblings, Ron was a paperboy in his youth and an avid reader. After high-school, he obtained a degree in education from Stephen F. Austin University and taught school in underprivileged communities in El Paso. Soon he began what would become his career, as an educator and administrator in the Job Corps at Camp Luna, near Las Vegas, New Mexico. It was in Las Vegas where he met and married the love of his life, Marcelina Montoya Cumbie, and they became a family with the birth of a daughter, Waverly Jeana, and a son, Byron McTerry.

Ron eventually transferred to locations in Arizona and Virginia before settling in 1974 at a Job Corps Center located in the Daniel Boone National Forest at Pine Knot, Kentucky. Here he continued his work; over the course of his life helping hundreds of disadvantaged youths to obtain a GED certificate and learn valuable trade skills.

Ron also invested himself deeply into his community, becoming a PTA President, volunteer church bus driver, President of the Lions Club, newspaper columnist, and Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Stearns.

After the birth of their first grandchild, Ron and Margie relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee where they spent their twilight years being grandparents and Ron fed his lifelong curiosity about historic people and places.

Ron was known by many for his intellect, his considerate nature, for being a good neighbor and citizen. He was fond of bright shirts with classic cars printed on them, early rock and roll music, and folk art. He maintained several lifelong friendships through hand-written letters, and would often include thoughtful newspaper clippings that had reminded him of the recipient.

Ron kept a daily journal for over fifty years, noting world events, the weather, and especially his pride in the accomplishments of his friends and family. He was particularly patient with children and kind to animals, passing his love of nature and conservation on to anyone he could.

Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margie, his sister Vanda and her husband Pablo, and his brother-in-law Eugenio. He is survived by his daughter Jeana (Oistein), son Byron, granddaughters Haley, Kelsey, and Willow, sister Terry, sister in law Sophia, brothers in law Toby, David, and Clyde, beloved nieces and nephews and extended friends and family.

Ron’s family has asked that in lieu of flowers that anyone wishing to serve Ron’s memory would simply do a kind act for a neighbor or something toward the preservation of nature.

David Rushing Fryer, age 66, of Leighton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

David was born October 21, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia to his father and mother, John and Linnea Fryer. David was the third child of four. David's beloved surviving siblings are Debbie Randall, John Fryer and Patricia Carter.

David is a beloveded husband to Shari Fryer. They were together for 29 years and married for 24 years. He cherished his wife and loved her deeply. David became a beloved father in 1996, raising two daughters as his own. His oldest daughter is Felicia Grant (Dustin Grant) and youngest daughter, Lorielle Coffey (Jason Coffey). There was nothing he loved more in life than being a father until he became a grandfather. He loved and lived for all seven grandchildren, Christian Grant 18, Stephanie Coffey 16, Jordyn Elizabeth Grant 15, Brittney Coffey 14, Alexis Grant 12, Dustin Jr. 7, and Emily Coffey 5.

David was a honest, caring, loving, supportive, dependable, hard-working, family man. He was a entrusted Hazmat over the road truck driver for almost 30 years. It was a dream job of his because he loved to see the world. He had traveled and seen all states including Canada and Mexico except Hawaii and Alaska. His favorite place to visit was Canada. He loved it there. He was a avid reader and enjoyed family time, discussing politics and enjoyed free time watching YouTube.

He looked forward to retirement, starting a garden and enjoying his grandchildren. David was intelligent, had a keen sense of humor, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need that he could help. He was a selfless man, and he remained that way even after death by being a donor and giving hope and life to people he didn't even know. He sacrificed and loved deeply for his family and anyone that has met him would say he was a true blessing to life. His family will Love, Honor, Cherish & Carry his memory forever.

A Celebration of life will be decided at a later date.

Clare "GG" Lurz Emery

Clare “GG” Lurz Emery, aged 86, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 9, 1938, but later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived for most of her life before relocating to various places and ultimately settling in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Clare earned a master’s degree in School Psychology and dedicated many years to supporting adults with disabilities through her work at Orange Grove Center, as well as helping those struggling with mental health at Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute, before retiring in 2004.

In retirement, Clare found joy in pottery, creating beautiful pieces and firing them in her home kiln. Even after losing her vision, she continued to throw pottery, never allowing her blindness to hinder her creativity. She was always working toward her next art show. Clare shared a deep love of Disney with her family, taking many memorable trips with them. She especially cherished trips with her daughter and granddaughter, during which they were reminded that “It’s a Small World After All.” At the age of 84, she braved her final rides on Space Mountain and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. She taught everyone around her to find joy in everyday life and to treasure making memories with loved ones.

A devout Catholic, Clare found comfort in praying her rosary daily. She was a dedicated member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, where she was a founding member of the women’s prayer ministry and helped create numerous prayer shawls for those in need of comfort. Alongside her prayer life, Clare practiced Tai Chi and meditation, which brought her peace and kept her active.

Clare was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Watson; sons, David Emery and Darryl Emery; grandchildren, Lindsay (Zach) Hagermaker, Megan (Toria) Watson, Brandon (Brittany) Emery, Katlyn Emery, and Rebekah Carter; daughter-in-law, Patty Emery; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Henry Watson, Brock and Nash Hagermaker, and the soon-to-arrive Baby Emery.

Special thanks are extended to Hearth Hospice for the beautiful, compassionate, and dignified care they provided in her final days. Helen was preceded in death by her father Henry Taylor Williams, mother Royce Martin Williams, and sisters Marie (Hollis) Arban and Jean (Gene) Jones.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years Bob Witthauer, son Rob Witthauer, daughter-in-law Jamie Witthauer, and grandchildren Rachel and Thomas Witthauer.

Jack is survived by his two daughters, Kari Ann Grier and Neena Fay Livingstone, both of Ringgold, Georgia; his two grandchildren, Lennon Grier and Hannah Knight; his sister, Victoria Green and her husband Larry Green; his niece, Barbie Elliott; nephews, Chad Green, Chris Cox, and Lamar Cox; several other nieces and nephews and grandnieces, Brittani Farmer, Tory Elliott, grandnephews, Josh Green and Cody Cox, and other grandnieces and nephews.

A lifelong sports enthusiast and proud Tennessee Vols fan, Jack had a passion for athletics that extended beyond the stands. In his younger years, he played both softball and basketball, later channeling that love into coaching. During the 1970s and 1980s, Jack made a lasting impact on the lives of inner-city children in North Chattanooga and East Lake, teaching not only the fundamentals of basketball but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

Jack was also an avid reader with a deep interest in Southern and Native American history, often found with a book in hand and a curiosity that never faded. His faith guided him throughout his life, and he spent meaningful time volunteering with Simpson Methodist Church at the Ronald McDonald House, giving his time and heart to families in need.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his love of community, and his devotion to his friends and family. Jack’s closest companions included his lifelong friend Mike Simmons and his beloved cat, Butch, who was rarely far from his side.

Jack Harper’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched—with laughter, wisdom, and quiet generosity.

Marion Becker Grove, 92, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025 - just one day before her 93rd birthday.

Born on November 5, 1932, in Hellam, York County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Ernest and Grace (Landis) Becker. Marion lived most of her life in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, and for the past ten years made her home in Tennessee with her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, N. Alvin Grove; her brothers, Walter Roger Becker and Richard Becker; and her sister Erlene Abel.

Marion is survived by three daughters, Joyce and her husband, Kerry McLaughlin, of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; Faye and her husband, Tom Hammett, of Hixson, Tennessee; and Carol and her husband, Mark Sechrist, of Red Lion, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Keller and Gloria Mead and her husband, Carl; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Becker and Bonnie Becker.

Marion had fond memories of growing up with her two brothers and three sisters in a rural farm area, attending a one-room schoolhouse, and enjoying the close-knit community around her.

She was a devoted wife and mother who faithfully served her family and community. She was active in her church and volunteered throughout her life in many organizations such as the Ladies’ Auxiliary for the Red Lion Felton Band and Meals on Wheels. After moving to Tennessee, she continued her service by volunteering for 5 years at Hixson Life Care Center, where she was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” in 2019 by the Tennessee Health Care Association. Known for her generous heart, Marion often helped elderly neighbors with shopping and errands, while also caring for her mother and father-in-law in her home.

Before her marriage, Marion worked at Drovers and Mechanics Bank in York, where she formed memorable friendships and proudly purchased her first car. A talented seamstress, she later made draperies and clothing for her daughters. Her true calling, however, came from motherhood through nurturing her children with unconditional love and support.

Marion will be remembered most for her deep devotion to her family, the joy she found in family gatherings, and her gift for cooking which was a true expression of love she shared with all who came to her table. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of life will be held to honor her life and memory in both Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

His maternal grandparents Jack and Barbara Isaacson; his Aunt Janna, cousins Gabriel and Grayson Gillard. His paternal grandmother Evelyn Madewell, his Aunt Amy and Uncle Joey, cousins Bryce, Sidney and Baylee. He was preceded in death by his Uncle Matt and paternal grandfather, Carson Madewell.

Zane will be remembered for his sweet sensitivity and grace-giving kindness. As a deep thinker and natural philosophizer, he reflected on life and the world around him. He enjoyed peace and freedom in the outdoors and loved hiking and skateboarding. Zane also formed meaningful connections with his friends and coworkers who will miss him tremendously. Grady was born on August 9, 1956, in Germany to the late Mary and Grady L. Reynolds Sr. He graduated from Fenger High School in 1974 and went on to earn his degree from Carroll University in 1977. In 1978, he married Sherry, and from that union they were blessed with one daughter, Krystal, born in 1981. He later married Katrina in 1997.

A devoted father and family man, Grady took great pride in his loved ones, his work, and his faith. He was known for his resilience, kind heart, and unforgettable sense of humor. Grady had a genuine love for people and an extraordinary ability to make friends wherever he went. His laughter was contagious, and his warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of those he touched.

Jason Wade Reed, 50, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Ooltewah, Tennessee.

Jason Wade Reed was born in Fort Oglethorpe, GA on September 20, 1975. He graduated from Ridgeland High School, Class of 1995.

Jason had many interests in life that included hunting, fishing, dirt bikes and a nice long ride with friends on his Harley. He was a fan of Alabama football, and every fall could not wait to shout “Roll Tide.” Jason will always be remembered for his love of a good “Talk Fest” and anyone that ever participated in these knew that man liked to talk.

Jason joined the United States Army in 2005 and served until 2012 and was promoted to Sgt. First Class. During this time, he served three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Campaign Stars, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional, Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) and NATO Medal. Much of his military career was spent stationed at Fort Campbell and Fort Hood where his dedication and courage earned the respect of all who served alongside him. He retired from active duty in 2012 to raise his beloved children. Jason then worked at Industrial Valve where he made deep lasting friendships and valued his work family.

Jason was a devoted son and loyal, loving brother and friend but above all, he was a proud father. His life was a testament to honor, family, faithful service and excellent work ethic. Jason is survived by his daughter, Piper Reed and son, Trenton Reed, his mother, Lisa Smith and Pop, Randy Smith, his sister Holley Ducker and brother-in-law Andy Ducker and nephews Patrick and Seth Ducker. He was loved, mentored and influenced by aunts and uncles Susan Green (Charles), Connie Woodworth (Reed), and Jay Reed (Machelle). He was blessed and enjoyed his life with his cousins: Amy, Kelly, Bobby, Kristen, Rebecca, and Melaney as well as their children: Lee, Rob, Nora, Abigail, Scott, Clint, Gracie, JD, and Emma.

Jason was well loved and cared for by the nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital, Life Care Center of Ooltewah and Hospice of Chattanooga. He often commented on their excellent care and professionalism.

Barbara was first and foremost a loving and ever-present mother and grandmother. She provided each of her cherished family members with unconditional love and unwavering support. She was always the calm and steady force who drew her family together and guided them through any storm, teaching us all to lean on our faith. She loved to cook, laugh, listen, and, most of all, spend time in the company of her loved ones.

She worked as a caregiver on Signal Mountain for many years. She was known for her patience, kindness, and her ability to brighten any room or situation with her natural warmth and care.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Shuptrine; daughter, Kelly Adams; sister, Carol Wonderlich; parents, Frederick and Marian Wohlleber; and mother-in-law, Iris Davis.

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Bettye Ruth Jones Ficken — a treasured mother, devoted wife, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, just as she lived — wrapped in love.

Born on December 16, 1932, to Jerry McKinley Jones and Hettie Cox Jones, Bettye Ruth was the eighth of eleven children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Raised on a family farm, she learned early the value of hard work, responsibility, and caring for what you love. Each child had daily chores, and it was there that her lifelong love of gardening took root. She truly had a “green thumb,” with a rare gift for nurturing plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers back to life — much like the way she nurtured the people around her.

After graduating from Grundy County High School, she moved to Chattanooga, where she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth L. Ficken, Sr. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Trudy, John (Debbie), Robin (Larry), and Ken Jr. Their marriage was a testament to partnership, devotion, and shared adventure.

Bettye Ruth was the heart of her family. She was loving, caring, supportive, giving, and unwaveringly dependable. Even at 93, she remained full of life — vibrant, stylish, graceful, and truly beautiful inside and out. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered. A natural conversationalist with a grand sense of humor, she welcomed people from all walks of life into her home and her heart. Most fondly and affectionately, she was known as “the boss lady” — a title she carried with charm and confidence.

She was active in the Republican Women of Chattanooga, her neighborhood garden club, her church, and her children’s schools. Once their children were grown, Bettye Ruth and Kenneth embraced travel, exploring the world together, boating on Lake Chickamauga, and continuing the gardening that brought her so much joy.

In recent years, one of her greatest blessings was the daily time she spent with her great-granddaughter, Sara Frances. Their bond was extraordinarily special — filled with laughter, tenderness, and shared moments that will forever be cherished. Throughout her life, she remained not only a loving mother but also a close and loyal friend to her daughters, a relationship marked by deep affection, daily connection, and enduring closeness.

Losing her has left an immeasurable void in our lives. Yet we are comforted by the countless memories she gave us, the love she poured into every generation, and the faith that assures us we will see her again.

She will be laid to rest alongside her late husband at Chattanooga National Cemetery. There will be no visitation, and a celebration of her remarkable life will be held at a future date.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga and Gooden’s Compassionate Care and the tireless Ms. Brenda for her loving, and expert care. A special thank you to Benita and Dainy, whose devoted support in her final months became a treasured friendship.

Jessica Lynn Radkey was born July 7, 1983, in Sarasota, Florida, to Robert and Brandy Radkey. On Saturday, February 14, 2026. Jessica peacefully departed this life early at CHI Memorial Hospital.

She attended a Special needs school in Florida for 12 years before graduating. In her later years, she became a resident at Comet Trail, of Orange Grove Center. Jessica's soul brought warmth, light, and love to everyone was blessed to have known her. Her presence filled the room with comfort, her smile brought peace, and her spirit left an unforgettable mark on our lives. Jessica has a beautiful sense of style. She was truly one of a kind. Jessica will always be remembered for the joy she shared and the love she gave so freely. Though she is no longer here with us, her memories will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Jessica was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Radkey.

Rev. James Kelly Mallett, 84, a native of Chattanooga, TN, passed away at Alexian Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Signal Mountain, TN on March 21,2026.

Rev. James (Jim) Mallett was preceded in death by his father Louis James Mallett and by his mother Ruth Marie Campbell Mallett. He leaves behind his siter Patricia Ann Mallett Mayo, his aunt Jean Campbell Glassco, and many cousins. Rev. James Mallett was a retired Catholic Priest for the diocese of Nashville, TN.

He graduated from St. Bernard’s Seminary College in 1963 whereupon he was sent to the North American College in Rome Italy where he attended the Gregorian University for 4 years and graduated with a doctorate in philosophical theology. He was ordained on December 17,1966 at St. Peters Basilica in the Vatican.

Rev. Mallett returned to the US in 1967 and served as an assistant pastor in Memphis, TN. Two years later he returned to Chattanooga and became Chaplin at Newman Club at UTC. He also served as Chaplin at Memorial Hospital and implemented a policy of rotating ministers from different denominations to serve in that location. Rev. Mallett became assistant pastor at St. Peter and Paul Church and spent some time additionally teaching at Notre Dame High School where he is remembered as an inspiring educator.

His next role was that of Chancellor for the diocese of Nashville. He went on to become Vicar General and Vicar Judiciary. He took a yearlong leave of absence to attend a Church Administration course at Catholic University in Washington DC, obtaining a master's degree.

He was elected treasurer of the Canon Law Society and delivered as address to the secondary school system conference in New Orleans while Pope John Paul II was there. Because of all the questions related to civil las he decided to obtain a law degree which he did from Vanderbilt Law School, thereby receiving his second doctorate.

Rev. Mallette felt a call to serve as a pastor and so he renounced his administrative position to become a beloved pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church in Nashville. After many years of faithful service, he retired and returned to Chattanooga. He took a position as an instructor at UTC rotating classes between Human Rights and International Law.

He recently had an ordination anniversary celebration at Alexia Village on December 17,2025. Many of his classmates and other dear friends and relatives were able to attend along with Rev. Jim Vick and Rev. Dexter Brewer. He greatly wanted to make it to his 60th anniversary but encountered ill health in recent months.

Jim will be remembered as one who loved to serve, whether it be on an individual basis or as a pastor or teacher. His desire was always to sympathize, uplift, and treat everyone with kindness. He has said that kindness was the secret of his success. He was also a born teacher and loved helping students gain understanding. Many remember him lovingly as the best teacher they ever had.

Much love and appreciation go with him. He is one who made a difference in this world to help good prevail.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 1, 2026, from 10-11 AM in the Holy Family Hall at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 501 S. Moore Road in Chattanooga with funeral mass to follow at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

There will be a visitation on Friday April 17, 2026, from 9-10 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Nashville followed by a memorial service at 10 AM.

Nancy Lochridge Morrow, born on June 8, 1945, in Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Nancy dedicated much of her life to education as a long-time faculty member at David Lipscomb Elementary School. Her commitment to nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues throughout her career.

In addition to her professional accomplishments and devotion to family, Nancy found happiness in simple pleasures. She enjoyed walking, traveling to new places, painting and spending time working on her backyard pond—a space she lovingly tended to over the years.

Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Larry Morrow, and her son, Brian Gentry. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Hall and son-in-law Kevin Hall; her cherished grandchildren, Kendall Hall and Grayson Hall; and her granddaughter-in-law Amberlee Hall. Nancy’s family brought her immense joy and were a source of pride throughout her life.

Nancy’s memory will be treasured by those who knew her. May the legacy of her kindness and dedication bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.

Dr. James Moreland Henry

Dr. James Moreland Henry died on May 22, 2026, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 85 years old and hailed from Houston, TX. After Rice University, Princeton, and a Yale post-doc, he spent most of his life teaching chemical engineering and control systems at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a pioneer in online laboratories, setting up the world’s first lab available across the globe for students to run actual experiments at UTC, thus benefitting students in smaller engineering programs that hadn’t previously had access to laboratory experience. He was also instrumental in designing software to allow researchers on the ground to conduct experiments and collect data from the International Space Station. He lived in Amman, Jordan, as a Fulbright fellow teaching at the University of Jordan from 1987-8. He enjoyed a sabbatical fall semester in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1998. He travelled to Russia, Armenia, Berlin and Vienna professionally.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Moggie Carden Henry, and their two sons Davis Helms of Richmond VA, and Douglas Helms of Boone NC, their wives Catherine Clements and Shelley Helms, and three grandchildren, Duncan Henry Helms, Sydney Carden Helms and Ellie Catherine Helms. His sister Virginia Henry Westlake (Maynard) of Graham, TX, Sharon Westlake Barker and family of Fort Worth, TX and Wally Westlake and family in Colorado Springs, CO, also survive him. His parents were Sylvia Etta Moreland and James Skelton Henry.

Jim was a wonderful step-father to his two sons and brought delight and adventure to the family for years. Splashing in the Gulf of Mexico and engineering unique sandcastles with sons and families provided deep connections and glorious memories. Moggie and Jim had many jaunts to national parks (pre-grandchildren) with Virginia and Maynard. Jim was literally interested in everything and as a result there was never a dull moment to experience.

For 25 years, he was very active in Families Anonymous and in the 12-step community. Ever the seeker, he was part of the Tamarisk community for years, nearly completed a degree in Psychology, studied Thomas Hubl courses on Mystical Principles, journaled with his men’s group, did a deep dive into the Enneagram, attended many weekend workshops with what was formerly called Life Training, and was a member of First Christian Church for 35 years.

He was long-time member of a men’s group which has been the backbone of support during Jim’s last difficult month and a half. A big thank you to his frequent companions and protectors, Clay Davis, Alan Voss, Peter Ewing and Bruce Blohm. Another thank you goes to Antonio Snipes who kept watch over Jim in the evenings during his rehab stay, keeping him safe from another fall.

A service in Jim’s memory will be on August 1, 2026, at First Christian Church on McCallie Avenue, with visitation in the sanctuary at 1 pm and the service at 2 pm.

Kent Thomas Jones

Kent Thomas Jones, cherished son, devoted father and a man of remarkable intellect and quiet courage, passed away unexpectedly following a lingering illness. He was 59.

Born and raised in Hixson, TN, Kent’s early years revealed the gifts that would shape his life. He attended Hixson Elementary and graduated from Hixson High School, class of 1984. Kent excelled academically and participated in the Gifted Program throughout his schooling. He graduated from the University of Tennessee on August 12, 1988, completing a Dual Major with Honors in Political Science and English.

Kent continued his academic journey at George Washington University, National Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he earned his Juris Doctorate in International Law on June 12, 1991. Constitutional law was his passion. During law school, Kent served on the Moot Court Board and was elected President of the International Law Society, a distinction that reflected both his intellect and leadership.

Long before his legal career, Kent showed a different kind of discipline and grit. At the age of seven, he joined the Red Bank Boxing Team, coached by the legendary Skipper Fairbanks. Over the next five years, he stepped into the ring more than 60 times, including opening the Golden Gloves tournament at Memorial Auditorium. Those early lessons in courage and perseverance stayed with him throughout his life.

During High School summers, while his father and Uncle Allen worked long business days, Kent took responsibility for the Jones Brothers Peach Farm in Sale Creek, TN. Bay age 10, he was confidently driving tractors and hauling loaded peach wagons across the 11 acre orchard. Though farming was not his chosen profession, he often said how grateful he was for the experience and the character it built.

After graduating from Law School, Kent returned home to Tennessee, where he established a small practice and devoted himself to Criminal and Family Law. He served his clients faithfully until his passing, always guided by a strong sense of fairness and compassion.

Kent was a man of deep thought and quiet sentiment. His favorite poem was “IF” by Rudyard Kipling, a piece that spoke to his ideals. On his eighth birthday, his father crafted a walnut plaque engraved with the poem, a gift Kent treasured all his life and kept hanging on his office wall.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Iona Hinkle, with whom he spent many joyful childhood days while both of his parents were working.

He is survived by his beloved son, Dylan Thomas Jones; mother, Wanda Jones, father, Johnny Jones; uncle, Allen Jones; aunt, Janice Hinkle and stepmother, Sue Jones, whose home cooked meals he especially appreciated.

Rudolph Charles Peterson, 91 of Chickamauga, GA, formerly of Kankakee, IL, died on Monday, March 30, 2026.

He was born in Kankakee, IL to the late Edward and Marcella Einfelt Peterson. Rudolph retired in 1998 from the Roper Corporation, as Plant Manager, after 46 years of service. After enjoying his retirement, he went to work for Wal-Mart in Fort Oglethorpe, GA in 2008. Rudolph spent 15 years there and retired, for a second time, in 2023.

Rudolph was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed watching the them play every chance he could. Rudolph was such a dedicated White Sox fan that for the last 40 years, he never missed any spring training games. He was a member of the LaFayette Elks Lodge # 2018 for several years.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Della Naydean Sissom Peterson; his three sons, Joel, Edward and John Peterson; his one daughter, Paula Bradley; his step-daughter, Shannon Miller; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Peterson and sister, Linda Boyd.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date in Kankakee, IL, where he will be laid to rest with his parents and family.

He was born in Gainesville Florida, but Isaac lived and raised his family in North Georgia. Isaac worked at Hutcheson Medical Center for over 30 years.

Isaac is preceded in death by his father, General George Washington Bryan, his mother, Mary Etta Bryan and his sister, Joyce Hill.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his 3 children- Rebecca Gray (Jonathan), Adam Bryan and Chris Bryan, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, siblings- brothers, Lawrence Bryan, Mathew Bryan and Timothy Bryan, sisters, Gloria Geraci, Naomi Rhodes and several nieces and nephews.

Isaac loved music and enjoyed singing with his brothers and family. He will be remembered for his kind heart and always making people laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bobby Lee Wood, 88 of Hixson, TN, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

He was born in Bakersfield, CA to the late James Lawrence Wood and Bessie Louise Arter Wood. Bobby was the youngest of 11 children. He was a member of RiverLakes Community Church in Bakersfield, CA. Bobby was an avid hunter which led him to become a founding member of the Kern County Gun Club.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, completing Naval Aviation School and later attending night school to earn his Associates Degree. While serving in the U.S. Navy, his responsibilities included the testing and programing of various aircraft. After his time in the military, he worked on the Missile Program at Vanderberg Air Force Base, now known as Vanderberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, CA. Bobby retired as an Engineer from Lockheed, where he spent many years using his knowledge in the building of various aircraft. One project he was extremely proud to be a part of was the development of the SR-71 Blackbird aircraft.

Other than his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Bryan James Wood and his 10 siblings.

Bobby died just 12 days shy of he and Ann celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on April 13. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ann B. Likens Wood; daughter, Paula Elizabeth Feys; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Gary was a former and longtime member of New Haven Baptist Church where he had previously served as a deacon. He also served in the AWANA Club, where he was affectionately known by the “Sparkies” as “Mr. Gar-wee”.

He retired from Chazler Construction after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, his grandparents, Virgil and Nellie Hill, and father and mother-in-law Terry and Blondell McDonald preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Melissa Hill; his beloved grandchildren, Michael Hill, Anna Hill, and Liam Hill; his son, Jeremy (Susan) Hill; brother, Mitchell Hill; sister-in-law, Pat Allen, all of Chattanooga; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Another of earth’s angels has gone to be with our Lord and Savior. A loving wife, a dedicated mother, a devoted grandmother, and a dear friend to so many, Pamela Youmans Johnson died peacefully on April 29, 2026, at the Hospice Care Center.

Pam was born on April 23, 1954, in South Georgia to Luke and Etta Mae Youmans. The family moved to the Atlanta area when she was very young. After high school, UGA called her to Athens, GA, where she met her future husband, James Paul Johnson, III (Paul). Upon receiving their degrees, the couple moved to Lookout Mountain, GA, Paul’s hometown.

After teaching elementary school for a few years, Pam became a mother and full-time parent. But her days were not only filled with family care and activities, but also with arts and crafts, church committees, garden clubs, and community and social events. She loved to be involved with people.

Pam was also an avid SCUBA diver, which led her and Paul on exotic trips to enjoy aquatic life and lovely scenery. Wherever she was, whatever she was doing, Pam always shared a beautiful smile and a cheerful word, which made her a joy to be around.

Breast cancer slowed Pam’s activities a bit for a while, but nothing interfered with her care for her family, especially her role as a loving grandmother to two little angels. When the beast struck her again after too short a time had passed, Pam met it with great courage and a strong determination to continue to live her life to the fullest. A new grandson brought her great joy this past May. She has been a wonderful example of heroic living and a tremendous source of inspiration to all those around her.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest child, James Paul Johnson, IV (“Paul Fourth”).

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Paul; her daughter, Ardis Johnson; her son, Stuart Johnson (Elizabeth); her 3 grandsons: David, Thomas, and James Paul, V; and her brother, Dick Youmans.

The family of Ann Schmitt Eaves is deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing on May 7, 2026, at the age of 95.

She was born on February 5, 1931, to John and Cecil Schmitt of Chattanooga and continued to live her life in the East Brainerd area. She graduated from Tyner High School and married her high school sweetheart, Don Eaves, in 1949. Together they shared 72 years full of fun and adventure while raising four daughters, which was more than a full-time job.

Ann is best known for her kindness, caring, loving and compassionate spirit and having a great sense of humor even until the end of her life. In addition to raising children, Ann worked in retail and then as a substitute teacher at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary School. Her experience raising her daughters gave her a lot of experience for her school career. She was also deeply involved with her church and choir throughout her life at Morris Hill Baptist Church.

Ann was the daughter of the late John and Cecil Schmitt, and preceded in death by sisters, Reida Jackson, Roberta North, Faye Schmitt; brother, John B. (JB) Schmitt; husband, Don Eaves and grand-daughter, Meagan Sharp Scott.

She is survived by her four daughters, Donna Sharp (Russell), Carol Pilkington, Celia Kent and Beth Schoocraft; grandchildren, Jennie Moreland (Steve), Trey Pilkington, Brittany Bossert and Taylor Schoocraft; nine great grandchildren and her sister, Vivian Schmitt.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at the Don Eaves Heritage House in East Brainerd on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 4:30-7:30 PM. The family invites friends and family to share their memories and celebrate a life well lived.

Jimmy Daniel Gibson of Soddy Daisy age 83 went home to his “Dear Heavenly Father” on May 29,2026. He graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1962. He was a local business owner with Soddy Daisy Fruit Market for 40 years; he also worked at Combustion Engineering for 46 years. He was a lifetime member with Soddy Daisy Masonic Lodge #418, Scottish Rites and Alhambra Shriners and a member of the Boilermakers. He was a faithful Member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Jessica Angelene Gibson and his parents John Nathan and Dorothy Wilcox Gibson. He is survived by his wife Janice Davis Gibson where they celebrated 56 loving years together side by side, his daughter Stacie Nale (Steven), and his sister Polly Gibson. He was a Member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he was a deacon.

He devoted his life to his wife, two daughters, his family, and extended family. He loved Tennessee football, Nascar, and car shows. He strived to leave things better than they were before for everyone. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

Charlene Hall Davis Wiley, 91, died on Monday, June 8, 2026.

She was born October 19, 1934, and was raised in Lawrenceburg, TN. She spent some of her youth in Michigan in the 1940’s during WWII when her parents moved there to work in a factory for the war effort. After the war they returned to Lawrenceburg and she finished high school. Upon graduation, she moved to Nashville for training and work as a secretary. In 1953 she met and married attorney Leon W. Davis, Jr. They settled in Chattanooga and raised 5 children. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years as well as an accomplished pianist, avid bridge player, and had an artistic gift for charcoal portraits.

In 1976, she went back to work as secretary for Hamilton County Sheriff HQ Evett and retired after 14 years. In 1983, she married Joe Wiley. Together they travelled the United States in their RV and entertained her family on Chickamauga Lake at Freedom Bay. She was happiest when her family gathered to enjoy holidays, prepare home-cooked meals, play games, and share memories. Always a lady, Charlene valued good manners, kindness, humility and hard work. She enjoyed the simple blessings of life. She was strong, resilient, and never complained. Her family is grateful for all the happy memories, and she will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Marie Hall; her sister, Helen Hall Warren; the father of her children, Leon W Davis, Jr.; and her husband, Joe Wiley.

Charlene is survived by her five children: Gail Davis Catron (Nick); Jeffery Hall Davis (Sandy); Carol Davis Taylor; Leigh Ann Davis Coleman (Tim); Amy Davis Lamsey (Daniel), eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Her family owes a special thanks to Karen Hollman for her loving care in the last few years of Charlene's life; Karla Shropshire, her helpful neighbor; and her friends at Tyner United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Tyner United Methodist Church, 6805 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

A private service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Joe.
