Charlene Hall Davis Wiley, 91, died on Monday, June 8, 2026.
She was born October 19, 1934, and was raised in Lawrenceburg, TN. She spent some of her youth in Michigan in the 1940’s during WWII when her parents moved there to work in a factory for the war effort. After the war they returned to Lawrenceburg and she finished high school. Upon graduation, she moved to Nashville for training and work as a secretary. In 1953 she met and married attorney Leon W. Davis, Jr. They settled in Chattanooga and raised 5 children. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years as well as an accomplished pianist, avid bridge player, and had an artistic gift for charcoal portraits.
In 1976, she went back to work as secretary for Hamilton County Sheriff HQ Evett and retired after 14 years. In 1983, she married Joe Wiley. Together they travelled the United States in their RV and entertained her family on Chickamauga Lake at Freedom Bay. She was happiest when her family gathered to enjoy holidays, prepare home-cooked meals, play games, and share memories. Always a lady, Charlene valued good manners, kindness, humility and hard work. She enjoyed the simple blessings of life. She was strong, resilient, and never complained. Her family is grateful for all the happy memories, and she will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Marie Hall; her sister, Helen Hall Warren; the father of her children, Leon W Davis, Jr.; and her husband, Joe Wiley.
Charlene is survived by her five children: Gail Davis Catron (Nick); Jeffery Hall Davis (Sandy); Carol Davis Taylor; Leigh Ann Davis Coleman (Tim); Amy Davis Lamsey (Daniel), eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Her family owes a special thanks to Karen Hollman for her loving care in the last few years of Charlene's life; Karla Shropshire, her helpful neighbor; and her friends at Tyner United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Tyner United Methodist Church, 6805 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
A private service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Joe.
