The family of Ann Schmitt Eaves is deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing on May 7, 2026, at the age of 95.
She was born on February 5, 1931, to John and Cecil Schmitt of Chattanooga and continued to live her life in the East Brainerd area. She graduated from Tyner High School and married her high school sweetheart, Don Eaves, in 1949. Together they shared 72 years full of fun and adventure while raising four daughters, which was more than a full-time job.
Ann is best known for her kindness, caring, loving and compassionate spirit and having a great sense of humor even until the end of her life. In addition to raising children, Ann worked in retail and then as a substitute teacher at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary School. Her experience raising her daughters gave her a lot of experience for her school career. She was also deeply involved with her church and choir throughout her life at Morris Hill Baptist Church.
Ann was the daughter of the late John and Cecil Schmitt, and preceded in death by sisters, Reida Jackson, Roberta North, Faye Schmitt; brother, John B. (JB) Schmitt; husband, Don Eaves and grand-daughter, Meagan Sharp Scott.
She is survived by her four daughters, Donna Sharp (Russell), Carol Pilkington, Celia Kent and Beth Schoocraft; grandchildren, Jennie Moreland (Steve), Trey Pilkington, Brittany Bossert and Taylor Schoocraft; nine great grandchildren and her sister, Vivian Schmitt.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at the Don Eaves Heritage House in East Brainerd on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 4:30-7:30 PM. The family invites friends and family to share their memories and celebrate a life well lived.
